Renewal and Change: What we don’t see

We often start the New Year looking for renewal and change. Our resolutions come from reflecting on what we want in the future. We plan it out in our minds, but we don’t realize that our thinking is based on the past. Memories, our upbringing and our culture shape our thoughts and desires. They are like a program we project onto the future. We strive to achieve this image, but whatever the results, it will never satisfy us because it was not true and original in the first place. The source of our dreams, intentions, and actions needs to change. Rather than thinking about what we want, we can feel what wants to come through us now. For this, we come to a place of stillness and listen. Let’s practice this now.

Bring your attention to all the movement in your body, even when you are still—the breath and bloodstream, for example. Our cells renew each moment.

Now, bring attention to your emotions, which are energy in motion. There’s no need to name what they are—just feel their quality.

See the movements of your thoughts–memories, pictures, ideas, all that meets your consciousness.

There’s nothing to do or change now. Just notice and feel whatever comes and goes. Be aware and rest there!

Awareness is the source of stillness from which true and original dreams, intentions and actions can emerge. We don’t usually face the movement of our body, emotions and thoughts but look away at distractions. Watching movies is more comfortable than seeing truth. Unseen movement turns into agitation, which we see playing out in the world. We must face the agitation for true renewal and change in our lives. There’s nothing to achieve or master here. All it takes is courage to pay attention to whatever is happening, no matter how turbulent. Don’t run away, and when you do, come back. This is true bravery.

On the sky of awareness, clouds of thought will pass, and our mind can come back to order. We move with ease in the right direction without thinking much about it. Our lives can unfold in a true and original way. This is my definition of success, which I will write about in the next article. There will also be a course on renewal and change later this month.
